What is the Order of Thor?
The Order of Thor recognizes excellence in (and special contributions to) the American military cyber community. These recipients demonstrate duty, loyalty, and excellence. Recipients must be members of the MCPA (which is free for government employees; join here) and have made special contributions to the military cyber profession and/or the MCPA. Inductees are presented a medal symbolizing the appreciation on behalf of the American military cyber profession. Based on individual contribution, the Order of Thor is presented in three levels: Bronze, Silver, and Gold.
Bronze
Description: Being awarded the Bronze Order of Thor medal (BoT) recognizes excellence and special contributions to the military cyber community.
Criteria: The recipient must be a serving or honorably retired US government employee (Federal or State, Active or Reserve, Uniformed or Civilian) or upstanding citizen that embodies the values of loyalty, duty, and excellence.
Approval: Chapter Presidents, MCPA National leadership, and primary leaders (Commanders, Directors, etc) of DoD organizations (O6 level or above) may approve applications for this recognition locally using their best judgement and so long as the recipient meets the above criteria. Those tracking locally-approved medals will ensure recipients are recorded on the award tracker on the MCPA intranet.
Silver
Description: Being awarded the Silver Order of Thor medal (SoT) recognizes excellence and great contributions to the military cyber community by our leaders.
Criteria: The recipient must be at least a serving or honorably retired O4, W3, E8 Service-member or Civilian equivalent.
Approval: Chapter Presidents, MCPA National leadership, and primary leaders (Commanders, Directors, etc) of DoD organizations (O7 level or above) may approve applications locally for this recognition using their best judgement and so long as the recipient meets the above criteria. Those tracking locally-approved medals will ensure recipients are recorded on the award tracker on the MCPA intranet.
Gold
Description: Being awarded the Gold Order of Thor medal (GoT) recognizes excellence and the greatest contributions to the military cyber community by our most senior leaders.
Criteria: The recipient must be (at least) a serving or honorably retired General, Admiral, Senior Executive, Senior-most Enlisted Service-member of GO/FO-led organizations in the pay-grade of E9, Chief Warrant Officer 5, or equivalent.
Approval: Chapter Presidents, MCPA National leadership, and primary leaders (Commanders, Directors, etc) of DoD organizations (O8 level or above) may approve applications locally for this recognition using their best judgement and so long as the recipient meets the above criteria. Those tracking locally-approved medals will ensure recipients are recorded on the award tracker on the MCPA intranet.
