The Army Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC) Cyber Kickoff Celebration took place on April 26-27, 2022, in Huntsville, Alabama, on the beautiful campus of the University of Alabama Huntsville. The JROTC Cyber Kickoff introduced the inaugural class of Cyber Pilot schools around the country. The Cyber Pilot Program is scheduled to launch at 11 high schools nationwide and will address critical challenges for the Army and the nation by working to build and expand a diverse cyber workforce. The two-day event allowed educators and administrators to hear from professionals who are currently battling cyber threats, engage in hands-on activities from the curriculum, and share best practices with their peers and colleagues. Representatives and Leaders from the 11 nationwide JROTC Cyber Schools, the U.S. Army, the Department of Defense, as well as the Military Cyber Professional Association (MCPA) all came together to collaborate in the Cyber Pilot Kickoff. The MCPA had a booth at the event and provided information about the organization and the resources that the pilot schools can tap into at their respective local MCPA chapters. The MCPA was represented at the event by MAJ Stan Lozovsky, Commander of the 175th Cyber Protection Team, Decatur, Alabama and LTC Christopher S. Bizor, Cyber Pilot Planner, U.S. Army Cadet Command, Los Angeles, California.

The cybersecurity industry is rapidly growing and is projected to have over a million unfilled positions in 2022. The Army JROTC Cyber Pilot program addresses the needs of the nation by preparing interested students for careers in cybersecurity fields. The program provides students with opportunities to attain key knowledge, skills, and abilities through innovative activities, competitions, and workplace experiences with cyber mentors from MCPA or other professional organizations. Faculty and staff can become MCPA members and tap into the resources the MCPA has available through its wide network of members.
