Our Approach:
Part of the intent of the MCPA is to support recruiting and retention efforts for the American military cyber community. Therefore, the last thing we want to do is encourage actively serving military cyber professionals to take off the uniform. For those who have already made the decision to do so, however, we stand ready to (1) support their post-service success as members of this community who have sacrificed so much for our nation and (2) facilitate their decision to remain tethered to this mission space in one way or another...be it in academia, industry, government civilian, or a reserve role.
Over the years, the MCPA has taken action in pursuit of these goals by offering Transition Assistance Program (TAP) support at Fort Meade, conceiving of and pitching the Tailored Strategic Retention (TSR) program (subsequently awarded to another entity for resourced execution), creating the National Service Panel at DEF CON, and leveraging our gatherings (both at the chapter and national level) to make appropriate opportunities known.
HammerCon, being our annual culminating event, offers us an ideal venue for connecting the right people with the right opportunities for the right national security outcomes. Military cyber units and exhibiting sponsors, alike, have the opportunity to share information about their organizations and chances to serve within them. In 2024, we partnered with a sister nonprofit (the Women in Cybersecurity (WiCyS) Mid-Atlantic Affiliate) to create the HammerCon Hiring Corner. Nikkia Henderson (WiCyS Mid-Atlantic Affiliate President and DHS CISA C-SCRM Program Ops Lead) leads our Hiring Corner and offers insights into getting hired (see her video below "Unlocking the Federal Hiring Process").

HammerCon is the national convention of the MCPA and we reserve the right to set policies. Consistent with established MCPA policy, know that exhibiting entities, MCPA national sponsors and partners, and US governmental entities (including military units) are authorized to conduct recruiting activities at HammerCon alongside their efforts to share information about their organization and mission. They may do this from their tables or other appropriate location on premesis. NO OTHER ENTITIES ARE AUTHORIZED TO CONDUCT RECRUITING ACTIVITIES AT HAMMERCON, including nonprofit entities. If unauthorized entities would like to conduct such activities, they may seek approval ahead of time with MCPA leadership to obtain exlicit written approval.
